Status of
gambling online in the states is an
ever-changing climate and as such please
do not use the text on this page to base
your decisions. The status may have
changed by the time you read this.
A bill recently passed by congress and
set to become law (you can thank the Republican party by voting them out
in Nov) will specifically make it
illegal for banking institutions to
allow gambling transactions.
The bill which was slipped in
at the last minute by the current congress (republican) as a rider on the
port safety act (terrorism prevention) actually doesn't say anything new
in regards to what effects players other than further steps taken to make
it harder for them to gamble online. One such step is to apply more
pressure on US banking to stop or prevent gambling transactions.
What this means to you is that due to pressure by the DOJ, banks are now
(possibly) going to not allow you to transfer funds back and forth to such
ewallets as NETeller. Surprisingly Firepay (another ewallet
solution) has already made a public statement it will comply with the new
law should it take effect and its anybody's guess as to whether the other
14 or 15 current funding solutions (including NETeller) will comply or
choose to ignore this strong-arm tactic since they all exist outside the
borders of the US.
What is apparent to me is that
people who want to gamble from the privacy of their own bedrooms are going
to do so! And rightly so! What this really boils down to is ... as usual,
money. The powers that be don't like the fact they can't tax you
(even further i might add, ... like they don't get enough taxing you
coming and going ...... such as the fact that they tax your purchases,
including necessities such as gasoline .... but also your income ... check
it out and you'll find the income tax was created during world war 2 and
promised to be taken away when the war was over ... which of course never
happened ... its true, check your history and you'll see),
anyway follow the money and you'll always find the reason behind any
legislative move.
What's really amazingly
ignorant to me is that this is a situation which they can actually win but
they don't want to piss-off the religious right-wing by embracing online
gambling so in an effort to keep your money in a place where they can tax
it ... they choose to make online gambling the villain instead of
recognizing the fact its become a 14 billion dollar a year industry which
isn't going to go away.
While the
jury is still out, I think its quite unlikely the average US player
has anything more to worry about than the fact they may have to wait to
receive a cash-out because it will have to arrive via a check thru
snail mail instead of the much quicker way of having NETeller or the likes
... send a transfer to your bank account.
Please note
that the above is just one man's opinion and is not legal council.
