WTO trade dispute concerning online gambling, between the United States and the countries of Antigua and Barbuda continues but end is in sight. The WTO trade dispute between United States and the countries of Antigua and Barbuda concerning online gambling could be coming to an end according to the Minister of Finance and the Economy, Dr. Errol Cort as reported by the Antigua Sun Newspaper. Following a week of meetings with U.S. officials from almost every section but the kitchen sink department, Dr Cort is very optimistic. These included the Justice, Treasury, Commerce, Homeland Security (I bet they're a fun bunch with which to have lunch), and the State department. The last half of the week Cort had by his description several high-powered meetings including talks with key officials such as U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Susan Schwab and Congressman Charles Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. There are hopes a settlement can either be reached by the June 6th deadline for which the WTO activities have been deferred, or at least come to an understanding of what the terms of the settlement will entail and worst case scenario have both sides agree to an extension of time to allow the details of the settlement to be ironed out. Dr Cort also noted that Congressman Rangel had been helpful to Antigua and Barbuda in seeking closure to this matter.
