UltimateBet
poker cheating scandal
continues as the
players continue efforts to unearth the
truth.
Rightly outraged players have tasted
blood and are not in as big a hurry as
first seemed to put this all to rest and
move on and this writer applauds their
continued effort to get to the bottom of
this embarrassment to the online poker
community.
Further investigation just keeps pulling
back a more corrupt layer than had
proceeded and to quote the carnival
barker "where it stops nobody knows?".
It
seems an employee leaked
information that UB management had been
trying to cover up that Russ Hamilton
(former/current owner of AP/UB)
deposited money into
a superuser account
(accounts held by cheaters that allow
them to see everyone's cards) via
P2P transfer. The
home of another UB acknowledged
superuser account is
owned by Russ Hamilton.
I
could write pages and pages about this
scandal but I imagine readers just want
to know the jist of the story and as to
this date of Aug '08 the story reads
that first there was discovery of
cheating at Absolute Poker where in the
end the poker room paid back to the
players whom where cheated (and
requested payment, I am sure there were
those who were never aware of the matter
to know to request payment) and then
came to light there was similar cheating
at Ultimate Bet poker room which not so
ironically is owned by the same person
who owns Absolute Poker.
In
both instances there was dragging of
feet by the poker rooms when it came to
investigations by outside parties.
Although it seems the Absolute Poker
scandal is now laid to rest that the
Ultimate Bet poker room scandal still
has legs and continues to reveal more
corruption that is much further up the
ladder than was first thought by even
the most cynical.
Now it has been for all practical
purpose proven that the former owner
(and perhaps current owner hiding that
fact due to new law passed in the
states) has direct ties to at least two
of the "superuser" accounts and the
poker room (Ultimate Bet) is now
desperately seeking to further itself
from any current ties to its creator
although this writer feels that would be
damage control 101 whether owned by Russ
Hamilton or not: and does leave an out
for the poker room if it can prove that
1) there is no current ties to Russ
Hamilton past the fact he opened these
superuser accounts which having been the
man behind the software that powers
Ultimate Bet he could conceivably have
had the software already awaiting the
opening of an account with the right
sequence of letters and numbers to which
would trigger the superuser account to
be available.
Of
course there are many scenarios all of
which could leave the reputation of the
poker rooms slightly less singed but at
the end of the day they look as guilty
whether they were aware of the cheating
because they did not make a sincere
effort to either stop the cheating or
bring it to public knowledge because it
wasn't in the best interest of Ultimate
Bet.
Players whom have a financial stake in
the future of Ultimate Bet such as Annie
Duke have spoke out on behalf of the
poker room, prior to this new
information and no statements have been
made nor has there really been time
since this newest twist in the scandal
has been made public.
Many players had vowed loyalty to
Ultimate Bet even with the knowledge
they did less than all that was possible
to help with the investigation though UB
claims otherwise of course. But that was
before this newest revelation which
might have more impact on the public
viewpoint of the poker room. Time will
tell.
