Deposit methods at
online casinos are a consistent changing
climate for those in the states although
the current banking solutions have been
around a while now. Debit cards have
been working (Visa) since April '08,
which was not the case a short while
before that, although it has always
largely depended upon your chosen
banking institution as to whether
deposits were allowed to go through.
A law passed in 2007,
the UIGEA (unlawful internet gambling
enforcement act) made it illegal for
banks to allow financial transactions to
online gambling establishments but that
was a ridiculous joke which never really
got off the ground before it was shot
down via a memo from Senator Barney
Frank to the Treasury department telling
them to stop all prosecution/persecution
of online gambling transactions because
its a law that is never going to be
enforceable and was very poorly
conceived on many more levels than just
this most obvious point.
Debit cards should be
working again if not all ready then it
is just
around the corner, likely dependent upon
when the next time the decision makers
of your banking institution get together
to unanimously agree that it is safe to
allow their customers to spend their
money how they see fit. Up until now
that has been a deciding factor for
banking institutions. You know how
cautious bankers are to begin with, and
then throw in the threat of possible
prosecution and bankers are diving for
cover and turning down purchases which
had nothing to do with online gambling.
Which incidentally was part of the
reason it was decided this law could not
be enforced in a reasonable manner. A
lot of merchants were losing sales
because they couldn't get the sale to go
through the bank processors.
